Don't pay a fortune: ECO Guesthouse near Naiyang Beach, Phuket

There are plenty of popular points of interest in the southwest of Phuket Island. They all watch your attentiveness and request your time.

We propose a day trip with a limited choice of all the possibilities. We do not urge you to "make" them all. So you will have the leisure to stay half an hour longer at a place you like, to enjoy your seafood lunch or your afternoon break with a cup of tea, coffee or an ice cream or even to spend the time for taking well composed pictures.

1. Stop: Wat Chalong;
2. Stop: Kan Eang Restaurants;
3. Stop: Kata View Point;
4. Stop: Cape Promthep.

If driving a rental car it would be a good idea not to go around there alone for the first time; try to be accompanied by a local Thai. A local Thai? A person knowing the landmarks you want to visit and knows how to get there. How to find such a person? Engage a professional driver at his day off! In most cases he speaks a little bit English ("We speak broken English, but that fluently") and knows the ways. He will solve problems of traffic and orientation for you. Of course he does not and should not work as your body guard. Fortunately you do not need such a person in Phuket.

Adoring locals at Wat Chalong, Phuket

1.) Wat Chalong:
After one hour's driving you will enjoy the friendly place of Wat Chalong. Visit the temples and watch the local people praying and adoring. Do not be afraid about the bangs on the premise. Their source is a tower of bricks where detonations of explosive come from: People believe these bangs make bad ghosts escape.

2.) Kan Eang Restaurants: Hungry for fresh Thai seafood? An especially nice place is to be found at Kan Eang 1 or Kan Eang 2 Restaurants at the shore of Chalong Bay. These restaurants offer plenty of shady tables. You should not have any difficulty to find your favorite table for not only enjoying your lunch but also the view over Chalong Bay. Far over the bay in the dust you may guess Cape Phanwa with its aquarium, another favorite place to visit one day.

3.) It's time now to proceed to Kata View Point. Go back to Cobra roundabout, take H 4028, later on H 4233. Follow it until Kata View Point.

4.) Cape Promthep is famous for its sunsets, but it is a location for worship of Hindu God Brahma since former times too ("prom" is Thai for "Brahma", signifying purity, and "thep" means "God").

Follow H 4233 until access road to Cape Promthep and proceed until Cape Promthep's parking area. Do not hope to be alone there. Hundreds of other tourists have been informed about this nice place too and hold out until sunset. Shorten your waiting time in a nice coffee shop with a great view over the sea and the shoreline.

In Phuket's high season sunset is at about 17:30 - 18:00. Keep in mind that you will need about 2 hours for returning home to ECO Guesthouse.
