The term "Khao Lak" describes an approximately 30 kilometers long stretch of coast in the west of Phangngaa Province, north of Phuket Island. The fishing village Tablamu marks its southern limit, 80 km away from Phuket airport HKT, its northern limit is the town of Takua Pa. A visit to Khao Lak is not free of emotion. The patrol boat 813, which is situated now a few hundred meters from the beach on the mainland, is not put there by human hands. This situation may explain the force of the tsunami from 26 December 2004 that surged against the coast.
An admirable reconstruction achievement removed the material damages (March 2009), the mental damages of the locals continue. In a confidential chat some one speaks about his and his family's fate.

For safety reasons the lodging establishments are not allowed to set up beach chairs and umbrellas at the beach. Whether the tsunami would have demanded fewer victims, if this prohibition had already been valid at that time?

On the way back from your day trip at dinner time we suggest a break in a seafood restaurant, situated to the seacoast directly north of Sarazin Bridge. Primarily a restaurant for locals, but tourists are welcome. The prices are moderate, the quality of the food is excellent, the service friendly. A great sunset accompanies your meal.
